How do canals connect us?
Drains, after a rain storm, this is where stormwater goes, it runs through our streets and yards and is carried to storm drains.
Culvert pipe, once in the storm drain, the water moves through a culvert pipe.
The culvert pipe then empties the water from the storm drain, into other waterbodies.
All of the canals and lakes within the District deliver the water to the C-11 canal, which then carries it to the S-13 Pump Station. It is then delivered to the Atlantic Ocean or the S-9 Pump Station, which delivers it to the Everglades.
Whatever is on the yards and streets (fertilizer, pesticides, automobile fluids, litter, etc.) makes its way through the drainage system and winds up where we don’t want it, in the Ocean or the Everglades.
